I am playing my Gretsch Falcon Cutaway acoustic guitar through a Fender Smolder® Overdrive pedal*, and I love the results. It’s almost impossible to get a good, phat tone without deal-breaking feedback and squealing using a normal overdrive pedal designed for electric guitars. Fender did the math and figured out how to EQ out the offending tones and leave the phat tones I was looking for. Judge for yourself. And this is just one setting, it can be as hot or subtle as you desire. Truly the best of both worlds.. (Now I just have to learn how to play lead guitar..)

*I am in no way compensated by Fender or any one else to make these statements. I am simply and freely stating my true opinion. This pedal is perfect for my needs.

This track was recorded live on August 29, 2023 at a private party in rural Fountain County, Indiana. We were set up outdoors right next to a big pond, and there were lots of folks just having fun all round. You can even hear folks talking in the background from time-to-time. What a great time, but I didn’t get any video, which is truly unfortunate. I hadn’t really intended on recording but I set it up at the last minute. We play through a PreSonus mixer which allows me to record each track separately. I import those tracks into my Cubase software and do a basic mix, and this is the result.

Eric Barr & The Jammers LIVE – Tore Down

Eric Barr & The Jammers LIVE – Tore Down

“Tore Down” is an Eric Clapton blues cover tune. The Jammers play a lot of different music styles, and many times Gene or I will throw out a tune the other has never done. But in the true spirit of “Jammers” we just…jam it out. This track is such a pristine example of that concept. The first time we played this, I had never played it before. Gene and Billy kicked it off, I jumped in and away we went. I played the lead parts like I heard in my noggin, not necessarily how it was originally done by Clapton, so it lacks some of the “signature” licks of Clapton’s original. I never play it exactly the same. This just became how we kind of “do” this song. I heard the original a while after we had been covering it and was surprised how different my version is.. Oh well.. Jammers be jammin’. The Jammers (Eric Barr, Billy Sloan, and Gene Powell) perform the Steven Earl song, Copperhead Road. The song is actually the first song Eric ever played all the way through on stage way back in the early 90’s at an open stage. It has become one of his most requested songs, and the band plays their version of the cult classic country rock foot-stomper in this genuine Hoosier back-country production. No fancy effects, no glitz and glimmer, just three guys who love to jam doing what they love. No claim for copyright on the music or lyrics, as this is a cover tune written by Steven Earl. Rehearsal after a month not playing. Wow. Trying to work the rust out of the joints.. Lordy, Lordy.. Most certainly not my best effort, but it’s real. Recorded this mostly to test new drum mics and positioning. Practicing the video production process at the same time. This is the result. Not really much to see.. But I thought I’d share a little inside scene.. The song is a familiar one that lets us warm up a little. We haven’t played much over the winter between sicknesses and life (or death) we haven’t been too successful at getting together. Gene’s son Ben shot the video on my iPhone 12, and it was tracked on a Macbook Pro through a Presonus board.

Eric Barr, Billy Sloan and Gene Powell, jamming out an original tune written by Eric. “Devil With A Pretty Face” was written about an unnamed character on “the afternoon Soaps”, according to Eric.
